What makes the Bowral Mental Health Service ...a real service?

What makes the Bowral Mental Health Service ...a real service?
The short answer would have to be.....the people who are dedicated to providing those services.

Within the Wingecarribee there is a small group of clinical staff - mainly nursing staff (some with more than one specialty), with some psychologists and welfare
staff, Aboriginal Mental Health worker, and health and social educators. This small group is ably supported by other staff - clinical information officer, Intake worker, and part time Visiting Medical Officers (Psychiatrists) and a Psychiatric Registrar.

Even with such a small staffing profile, the Bowral Mental Health Service provides an available worker over seven days and, apart from weekends and public holidays, a worker on-call up to 10pm each evening.

With the exceptional collaboration the Bowral Mental Health Service has with the local Hospital, those people in our community who require assistance and support with mental health services can expect a timely response, care and consideration of their needs, and subsequent support and connection with the most appropriate service for their particular needs.

The Bowral Mental Health Service always seeks to support community members in establishing regular clinical links with local General Practitioners, and other specialist clinicians, so as to enable a smooth transition of their continuity of care in the community.

Similarly, the Service endeavours to work closely with carers, families and other clinicians in private practice, to ensure that, when there is a need, the Bowral Mental Health Service can engage in collaborative work to bring about a stable situation for persons with an acute mental illness.

In following posts I hope to bring to light some of the diverse services and programs that have been initiated by the Bowral Mental Health Service collectively, and also by individuals who have brought about some innovative programs with the help of community members.
